CerQlar Analytics in a nutshell
- Portfolio managers and traders typically have to check multiple data sources, such as ETRM system exports and spreadsheets, when making trading and allocation decisions, as well as manually calculating the portfolio position every time.
- CerQlar Analytics provides a real-time view of a portfolio’s position, delivery obligations, and trading performance within the core CerQlar platform.
- This means portfolio managers and traders can mitigate the risk of being unintentionally long or short, buy and/or sell certificates when market conditions are favorable, and optimally allocate certificates to counterparties.
- Operations teams get more clarity on upcoming deliveries and due volumes, with automated alerts as deadlines get closer.
The challenge of managing large EAC portfolios
Portfolio managers and traders need accurate data on their portfolio to make optimal trading and allocation decisions. Otherwise they can easily end up unintentionally long or short for certain certificates, exposing them to price fluctuations or even failing to meet their obligations.
In reality, this means most teams spend hours calculating their position every time they need to make trades or allocations, and often end up using outdated inventory, contractual, and financial information from multiple spreadsheets and ETRM system exports as the basis of their decisions. The data can be consolidated and visualized using Power BI tools, but this adds yet another step to the process.
Why we built CerQlar Analytics
While existing CerQlar clients could already skip much of this work by automatically calculating their position and seeing their inventory and delivery obligations in one place, they still had to take the final step of visualizing their data with Power BI or other tools. This included layering in financial data such as P&L, pricing, and trading performance.
We built CerQlar Analytics to close that gap and bring these portfolio insights directly into the platform. The underlying EAC data was already there, so it was a matter of creating a tool that could turn this data into portfolio intelligence. This helps companies make better trading and allocation decisions, and ultimately improve their portfolio profitability.
How CerQlar Analytics works
CerQlar Analytics pulls data from your tradebook (i.e. contracts with counterparties), EAC inventory, and plant equipment data already in CerQlar, and turns it into real-time visualizations of your portfolio’s position, delivery obligations, and trading performance. This includes:
- Portfolio exposure across your entire EAC portfolio (any registry)
- Net portfolio position by commodity, technology, or market
- Upcoming delivery obligations and due volumes
- Trading performance by technology or market segment
- Portfolio imbalance and delivery risk
Users can easily create different views and reports by filtering by criteria such as counterparty, time period, vintage, or technology. From these views, users can view and manage the more granular details of trades, certificates, or deliveries, and then zoom back out to see the full picture.
What this means for teams involved in managing EACs
With CerQlar Analytics, all teams involved in managing the portfolio work from a single source of truth to make decisions, execute transactions, or report on performance.
Portfolio managers and traders get real-time visibility of their portfolio position, delivery obligations, and trading performance. This means they can monitor and mitigate the risk of being unintentionally long or short on certain certificates, buy and/or sell the certificates they need when market conditions are favorable, and optimally allocate certificates to counterparties based on the specificity of their requirements.

Operations teams get more clarity on upcoming deliveries and due volumes, with automated alerts as deadlines get closer. This helps them detect over-supply or fulfillment risks ahead of time and flag potential issues to the teams responsible for selling or buying more certificates.
Finally, while risk and senior management aren’t likely to be regular users of CerQlar, they can easily get a real-time view of portfolio exposure, imbalances, and profitability, without waiting on manually prepared reports.
